Contract Milker
Contract Milking Role – Hororata, Canterbury
Our long-established clients are converting their well-developed and highly productive arable and dairy support property into a high-quality dairy unit.
They are seeking to recruit a motivated and experienced Contract Milker to operate the farm, commencing 1st June 2027.
Key property features include: -
· 1,100 peak cows milked.
· Milk solids production of 506,000kgMS (forecast).
· Sense Hub Collars.
· Brand new 60 bail rotary shed, fully automated with grain feeding.
· Centre pivot irrigation and one lateral irrigator.
· Brand new 4-bed main house and high-quality new accommodation for staff.
The owners are highly experienced farmers who are committed to resourcing the farm to achieve the milk solid production targets (supplements and fertiliser) and to maintain the property to a very high standard. They will actively support successful applicants to advance in the dairy industry.
Suitable applicants must be: -
§ Excellent livestock and pasture managers
§ Good people managers and safe operators
§ Effective communicators
§ Motivated and organised
§ Good caretakers of property
§ A NZ Resident
§ Have at least 2-3 years of recent contract milking experience
§ Able to demonstrate their ability to finance their contract milking business.
The successful applicant will be offered a competitive contract milking agreement and will be required to provide farm motorbikes, calf rearing equipment, portable fences and basic hand tools.
The farm is located close to Hororata (5 km), Darfield (19 km) and Rolleston (40 km), with excellent schooling options available in the area. 57 km to Christchurch city.

How to write an effective CV for jobs in the Dairy industry
When applying for a job you will normally be asked to apply by submitting a CV (curriculum vitae) also called a resume.
A CV is a summary of your personal details, skills, work experience and details of people who will vouch for you and can provide more information about skills and motivation.
Most jobs are now advertised and applied for on-line. Ensure that the format you use for your CV is a common format e.g., PDF or Word format is best so that it can be easily accessed by the person recruiting the position. Also be aware of the size of your CV and covering letter file. Don’t make it too big as this may cause problems for the receiver of your application, if their internet connection is poor. Often this associated with photos and intricate layouts.
Read the advert carefully and tailor your application to what is being asked for in the CV. When receiving applications, it is obvious that many applicants haven’t read the job advertisement in detail.
